Ottawa area youth are invited to participate in a 3- part workshop series aimed to empower them with pre-employment skills, volunteer readiness and self-advocacy. We have Come to Work program lead Bryanna and Advocacy program lead Kate, joining us to provide their expertise to youth in the Ottawa area. Supper will be provided at each session. Adjustment to Sight Loss (A2SL) is a 7-week virtual series where participants connect with others who are either new to sight loss or who have been living with it for some time and are now coming to terms with it. Hosted by Laura Bain and Natalie Fougere, these sessions will cover topics including mental health and sight loss, communication, advocacy, and independent living skills. The Adjustment to Sight Loss program is designed to give participants “tools for their toolbelt” as they continue their personal journey.

CNIB BC-Yukon is supporting the creation of a new parent/guardian advocacy group which aims to empower and connect families across the province and territory, working to accomplish advocacy-based goals, such as equitable education for students who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision. This program is inspired by feedback from parents, guardians, and students regarding their exhaustion from continually self-advocating within the school system.
