A parent and teen anonymous exchange: A communication bridging workshop for youth with with vision loss and their parents.

The workshop is a guided communication experience where parents can better understand their teen’s lived experience, and where youth can feel genuinely heard. Through a guided communication exercise, parents and teens work in separate rooms to reflect anonymously and honestly on what they need, hope for, and want from one another when it comes to the common journey with vision loss.

This workshop is designed for youth living with vision loss (ages 10–25), parents or caregivers  and families who want to communicate better, with more trust and less tension.

Parents discover:

  • What support actually feels like to their teen
  • How much pressure youth carry
  • That their child wants connection, not distance
  • That independence doesn’t always look like danger, it can be empowering

Youth discover:

  • “I’m not the only one who feels this way.”
  • Their parents’ fears come from love, not control
  • Their voice matters
  • They are capable, growing, and deserve independence

Both groups leave with:

  • Stronger empathy
  • Clearer communication
  • Less tension
  • More trust
  • A shared sense of hope and connection
  • A solutions focused mindset when encountering challenges, fears and concerns along the vision loss journey
  • An understanding that vision loss not only affects the youth directly but it also has impact on parents, siblings and other family members

The One Room and Two Conversations Workshop meets on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CNIB London Hub (171 Queens Ave. Suite 101, London).
