Since 1997, CNIB has organized a Canada-wide Braille Creative Writing Contest for children and youth. This important competition celebrates braille literacy and encourages young people to flex their creative muscles while practicing their braille skills.

Write a short story, essay, or poem on any topic or re-purpose something you've written for school this year! Show off your creative writing talents for a chance to win cash prizes.

The contest is open to primary and secondary students (grades K-12) who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision and live in Canada.

How to Enter

Submit your short story, essay, or poem on any topic (in English or French) by May 31, 2027. Entries must also be accompanied by a signed entry form.

Let’s Talk: CNIB in PEI – Evening Session

Recently, CNIB made the decision to close its physical office in PEI. We recognize that we did not provide enough information at the time about why this decision was made or what the future of CNIB PEI will look like, and we want to address that now. These sessions are an opportunity to hear directly from us, ask questions, and learn more about what this change means for you and what comes next. We’ll talk about how CNIB will continue to support Islanders who are blind or partially sighted through community-based programs, Mobile Hubs, and new approaches designed to reach more people across the province. There will be a morning session and an evening session to make it possible for as many people as possible to participate. We hope you’ll join us for one! Music Therapist Erin Koop hosts weekly sessions on Zoom for children across the country. These interactive sessions are filled with songs, stories, and more! Get ready to make some music! This group runs on Zoom, every Tuesday from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Healing Leash: Honouring Guide Dog Loss (Fall 2026)

The Healing Leash: Honouring Guide Dog Loss is a 4-week, volunteer-led peer support group for anyone who has experienced the loss of a guide dog—through passing, retirement, or rehoming. Participants will have the opportunity to share their stories, honour their bond, offer mutual support, and gain comfort through shared experiences and insights. The group is open to all. This 4-week series meets Tuesday, September 16, 23, 30 and October 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Zoom.
