CNIB and Hanlan Boat Club: Introduction to Rowing for Youth

Try adaptive rowing with our community partners the Hanlan Boat Club on June 20th! This will be a chance for attendees to test a rowing machine, learn the background and history of the sport and try their hand in a sweep oar boat.

The session will be facilitated by Vicky Nowlan, Manager of CNIB Next Generation and Team Canada Rowing Paralympian who won gold and participated in a new world record at the 2010 Championships in New Zealand.

Requirements:

• Be 12 years of age or older.
• This is a multigenerational event. You can also invite friends and family.
• Be able to lift 40-50 lbs independently. Each team member must be able to hoist the boat collaboratively with their group.
• Be a strong swimmer. When rowing the oar is kept close to the body and a life jacket interferes with this motion. Jackets are kept on the vessel but not worn during active rowing.
• High school age students and older are recommended. If you are 12 and up and can manage the weight you will be included.

Join us for Introduction to Rowing for Youth on Saturday, June 20 from 12 to 3 p.m. at  the Hanlan Boat Club (6 Regatta Road, Toronto). Close to Cherry Beach.

Please be advised that you must register for all programs. We kindly ask you to RSVP a minimum of 1 full business day before the start of the program.
