Peer Support Programs

It's not unusual to feel depressed, angry or alone when you experience a loss of sight. There will probably be times when you wish you had someone to help you work through these feelings. If you're struggling to overcome the emotional challenges of sight loss, we're here for you. Peer Support groups give you the opportunity to connect with others who are living with sight loss.

Guide Dog Handlers Chat Group

This is a safe and supportive place for guide dog handlers from across the country to get together and chat. Share the joys and challenges of being a guide dog handler as well as tips to keep our guide dogs happy and engaged. This group runs via Zoom web conference on Friday, December 11 from 1-2 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Guide Dog Peer Group (Ontario)

Join other guide dog handlers to talk about social/advocacy issues. This group meets via teleconference biweekly on Wednesday, December 9 & 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Call-in information will be given upon registration.

This program is designed for new participants who are adjusting to vision loss. We explore and discuss the stages of grief and loss, coping mechanisms, family dynamics, health and nutrition, and financial literacy. This peer support group runs via Zoom web conference every Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Call in information will be given upon registration.

Young Women's Group

Are you a young woman preparing for university or starting your professional life? Join us to meet other confident, independent young women with similar interests and experiences. We will focus on issues that are relevant to your life, learn new things, and discuss the challenges of living with sight loss. Topics such as mental health, socialization, dating and navigating the workforce are just some of the things we will delve into.
