The CNIB community is mourning the loss of long-time donor and champion Arthur Britton “Brit” Smith, who passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 103. We extend our deepest condolences to his large network of family and friends.

The Government of Canada invested in research into the design of cycling infrastructure for people with sight loss

Today, Robert Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West on behalf of the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities announced a federal investment of $50,000 to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB Foundation) to support research into how raised cycle tracks at bus stops across Canada impact people with sight loss and developed recommendations for the construction of future raised cycle tracks in Canada.

CNIB Guide Dogs announces future home of Puppy Development Centre, unveils sign 

(GEORGINA, ON – September 25, 2023) – Today, CNIB Guide Dogs unveiled the new site of its first-ever puppy development centre in the Town of Georgina.

Since launching in 2017, CNIB Guide Dogs has quickly become a leader in the guide dog community. As part of the program's expansion, CNIB Guide Dogs has purchased three acres of land in the Town of Georgina on Lake Simcoe, where they’ll build the Howard & Delores Beck Puppy Development Centre.

The Joyce Family Foundation Makes Historic $1.5M Endowment Gift to CNIB in Support of Students Who Are Blind

TORONTO, September 21, 2023 — The Joyce Family Foundation, a leading private family foundation created by the late Canadian businessman Ron Joyce, has made a landmark endowment gift of $1.5 million to CNIB’s post-secondary bursaries program. The donation represents the largest endowment gift in CNIB’s history.

CNIB Wheels of Fortune Car Raffle and 50/50 Draw raises $69,000 for programs in British Columbia

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC, August 11, 2023 – The CNIB Wheels of Fortune Car Raffle and 50/50 draw raised an estimated $69,000 in proceeds to help support vital programs and services offered by CNIB in British Columbia. The fundraising initiative, which took place over the last six months, saw an overwhelming response from supporters eager to claim the two prizes: A 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible and half of a 50/50 jackpot.

Thanks to the generosity of partners like Bayer Inc. and Hoffman-La Roche, the Medical Mobile Eye Care Unit, commonly known as the Eye Van, kicked off its annual tour in Iroquois Falls, Ontario on May 1, 2023. The 2023 tour will conclude October 27, 2023, in Little Current, Ontario.
