Joyce Family Foundation gives bursaries to 18 students with sight loss

CNIB thanks the Joyce Family Foundation for their incredible donation of 18 needs-based bursaries for Canadian undergraduate students with sight loss.
Since 2016, the Joyce Family Foundation has donated bursaries to 16 students who are blind or partially sighted, in addition to the 18 who will now benefit from the organization's generosity. Some of the schools students have attended thanks to their support include Sheridan College, Algonquin College, the University of Ottawa, Saskatchewan Polytech's Business Information Systems, and Grande Prairie Regional College.
Over the next three years, these bursaries will play an important role in making post-secondary education more accessible and affordable to students with sight loss in Canada. Each award will help a student overcome a financial barrier, whether the cost of tuition itself or adaptive technology to help level the playing field in the classroom – including iPads with magnification software, CCTVs, and more.

TORONTO, ON, June 23, 2026 — The Government of Ontario has amended a Regulation under the Provincial Offences Act (Ontario Regulation 950) to now allow police officers to issue tickets when someone denies service to a person accompanied by a guide dog, providing a more immediate enforcement response for guide dog handlers who experience discrimination.
TORONTO, ON., June 22, 2026 – CNIB, together with the Toronto Public Library, Library and Archives Canada, and TD Bank Group (TD), is thrilled to announce the official launch of the 2026 TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC), Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests, and abilities. With renewed funding from TD, the TD Summer Reading Club will continue to inspire young readers across the country while expanding the availability of accessible formats of the club’s recommended reads, online and print elements, and its most popular activities and resources.
Due to the redevelopment of the building leased by CNIB at 1525 Yonge Street, the CNIB GTA Community Hub will permanently close on July 1, 2026. While the CNIB GTA Community Hub may be closing, we want to reassure our community that CNIB programs and services will continue without interruption. Beginning June 1, all local in-person programming will be offered at alternative locations in the GTA, including at CNIB’s national office at 1929 Bayview Ave., as well as local community spaces like libraries and community centres and through the CNIB Mobile Hub.
The Census of Population is taking place in May 2026 and will continue over the summer months. Data from the census are essential for all levels of governments, as well as businesses, community groups and organizations. Completing the census is a legal requirement for all residents of Canada. All residents of Canada are required to complete the census questionnaire, according to the Statistics Act.
