From classrooms to city hall or speaking to businesses, our Community Engagement Volunteers (CEVs) advocate and educate the public to help raise awareness about key issues facing the sight loss community and create positive change for people who are blind or partially sighted.
Who are CEVs?
Community Engagement Volunteers are people who are blind or partially sighted, their friends or family, or anyone who has a connection to the mission and wants to make a difference in their community. They are self-starters who can bring together community and drive local grassroots campaigns as well as support national advocacy issues in their region through collaborating with others.
They believe change can happen through amplifying the voices of people who are blind or partially sighted in their community by making sure their concerns and issues are heard.
How do CEVs make an impact?
If you are someone with lived experience of sight loss or a connection to our mission, there are many ways you can get involved:
- Delivering community presentations on a range of topics relating to sight loss and accessibility
- Attending community events on behalf of CNIB
- Meeting with decision makers and politicians
- Participating in national or local advocacy campaigns
- Joining a regional advocacy committee
- And much more!
What are the benefits of becoming a CEV?
Our CEV role is a flexible and varied position that is tailored to your interests and skillsets.
CEVs are part of a dedicated and passionate staff and volunteer team working to amplify the voices of people who are blind or partially sighted in our communities and bring about real change to create a more accessible and inclusive society for everyone.
Our CEV program also provides access to programs, training and resources that help our volunteers develop a range of skills relating to advocacy, such as public speaking, communications, public and government relations, and campaigns. Please visit our Advocacy Resources page to learn more.
