Advocacy Programs

To register for the Advocacy programs or for more information please contact Mohammed Ali at Mohammed.Ali@cnib.ca or 306-241-9107.

Accessible Community Engagement: Date and time TBA. Despite legislation like the Accessible Canada Act, many Canadians, including professionals in key sectors, lack the knowledge and skills needed to accommodate individuals with sight loss adequately. This gap in awareness results in barriers such as limited employment opportunities, inadequate accessibility in public services, unequal education experiences, and social exclusion for people who are blind or low vision. This project seeks to fill this gap by demystifying misconceptions about blindness and providing industry-specific training to promote inclusivity. By targeting key industries including transit, healthcare, and education, as well as providing training to Canadian businesses and community groups, the project aims to push Canada beyond minimum compliance with accessibility regulations, ensuring that key services are truly accessible to those with sight loss. The project will involve a team of CNIB staff and community leaders who are blind or low vision. Working together they will deliver awareness workshops focused on attitudes toward blindness, accessible customer service, and inclusive design.
Empowerment Through Advocacy: Friday, October 3, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The "Empowerment through Advocacy" workshop is designed to equip individuals who are blind or partially sighted with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to advocate for themselves effectively in various situations. Through role-playing exercises, interactive discussions, and practical tips, participants will learn how to navigate challenges, assert their needs, and promote inclusivity and accessibility in their daily lives.
Saskatchewan Advocacy Group:  Fourth Thursday of every month, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Zoom. With CNIB’s new strategic plan, The Way Forward we will remove barriers today, tomorrow, together. This group of community engagement volunteers advocates for change and to bring awareness to the communities across Saskatchewan. The Advocacy Group will focus on our three strategic commitments: Attitude is Everything, Safe & Accessible Journeys, and Our Kids Will Thrive, and work on a variety of initiatives throughout the year in their community.

This scavenger hunt is designed to be accessible in different ways, encouraging participants to explore how assistive technology can empower them to navigate, communicate, and solve problems creatively. Every step of the hunt highlights the power of assistive technology to break down everyday barriers. Families will have the opportunity to socialize, all while having fun and enjoying delicious food.
