Time Details
- Minimum 4-month commitment (assuming the office doesn’t close again due to COVID-related imposed restrictions)
- Minimum one weekly shift from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. OR 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location
- Training will include on-going in-person training as required
- Working in the shop at 6136 Almon Street in Halifax, NS
- Regular interruptions as staff or members arrive and leave
- Some quiet time when no one is in the shop
- Using technology including a Point of Sale system

Position Description
Smart Life Assistants provide shop support for 3.5 hours a week including assisting people with sight loss as they try various products in CNIB’s shop. This may include providing hand-over-hand guidance, demonstrating and recommending devices, processing sales, and maintaining the shop.
Qualities, Skills and Training
- Demoing and educating on products
- Processing sales
- Maintaining the shop (setting demo watches, clocks, etc.) and cleaning surfaces and demo items
- Providing information to clients on VLR and CNIB Foundation services
- Greeting clients and guests; advise staff when clients arrive for appointments
- Guiding clients and guests to washrooms/offices
- Answering inquiries regarding specific services
- Contacting clients to pick up items
- Calling taxis for clients
- Other administrative duties as required
