Join us on October 17th at the Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg McQuesten Urban Farm, an organization that addresses issues of securing a nutritious and sustainable food source for the community, to learn about their food services and do some gardening.

We will be assisting in their effort to plant 15,000 garlic bulbs for harvest next season. This will include a variety of tasks sorting bulbs/seeds by size, breaking them apart, and then planting them. There will be a line tied to two posts that spans the length of the bed to ensure the bulbs are planted in a straight line that we can rely on as a guide. We will also be measuring our hands to help make planting the bulbs in the field about one foot apart easier. Depending on time, staff will do an activity about food ripeness and freshness, helping participants understand the difference in quality and how they decide what and when to harvest.

Important Notes:

  • Spots are limited, register early!
  • Open to all ages, ensure you are physically capable of the walk length
  • We will not be providing guides, so you are responsible for bringing your own. Both yourself and your guide must register
  • Weather permitting, we reserve the right to cancel/modify plans at the last minute due to unsafe weather
