The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests, and abilities.
Developed by Toronto Public Library in partnership with Library and Archives Canada, the TD Summer Reading Club is co-created and delivered by more than 2,200 public libraries across Canada, as well as online. This free club is designed to keep kids engaged in reading all summer through fun activities, rewards, and celebrations of their achievements.
As a proud supporter of the TD Summer Reading Club, CNIB and the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), with funding from TD Ready Commitment, have worked together to expanded the availability of accessible formats of the club’s books, online and print elements, and its most popular activities and resources, enabling more children to take part and experience the excitement, confidence, and connection that reading brings.
Summer reading starts here
The TD Summer Reading Club highlights Canadian authors and illustrators while encouraging children to connect and share with others across the country and discover the joy of reading. Kids and families can explore books from the recommended reads list, track their reading progress, and participate in fun activities offered both online and in-person at their local library.
Kids can:
- Review books
- Vote in the Battle of the Books
- Participate in weekly trivia
- Write stories
- Read and write jokes
- Read an original web comic
- View author/illustrator readings and workshops
- And more! Your library may also have other fun activities and initiatives for kids to take part in
An accessible club for all kids
Several of the reading club books on the “Recommended Reads” list are available in audio, eBook, and braille formats – or there may be other titles related to summer fun that kids may enjoy. You can access alternative formats through the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA) and/or the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS) or ask library staff about which of these services they offer and how to register.
The TD Summer Reading Club also has accessible formats of the club’s online and print elements, and its most popular activities and resources, including:
- Audio, braille, e-text and OpenDyslexic font versions of program notebooks
- Audio recordings of the StoryWalk® panels and original web comic
- Braille kits and activities
