CNIB is very saddened to hear of the loss of Walter Gretzky. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Gretzky family. Walter was an incredible CNIB supporter and avid advocate for youth with sight loss. In 1996, the Walter & Wayne Gretzky Scholarship for Blind Youth in Canada was established. Those scholarships were funded through a series of golf tournaments across Canada. For years, Walter would travel to numerous cities to connect with our supporters. He would always regale them with stories of the Great One. Still, in the end, it was always about raising as much money as possible to support youth with sight loss. He was always interested in hearing how the scholarship awards helped them achieve their educational goals. Walter was a remarkable icon and an amazing friend of CNIB who will be greatly missed by many.
This summer, a little East Coast magic is coming to Muskoka. On Saturday, August 15, guests from across Ontario will gather on the shores of Lake Joseph for Lake Joe Live: Muskoka Kitchen Party.
TORONTO, ON, June 23, 2026 — The Government of Ontario has amended a Regulation under the Provincial Offences Act (Ontario Regulation 950) to now allow police officers to issue tickets when someone denies service to a person accompanied by a guide dog, providing a more immediate enforcement response for guide dog handlers who experience discrimination.
TORONTO, ON., June 22, 2026 – CNIB, together with the Toronto Public Library, Library and Archives Canada, and TD Bank Group (TD), is thrilled to announce the official launch of the 2026 TD Summer Reading Club (TDSRC), Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests, and abilities. With renewed funding from TD, the TD Summer Reading Club will continue to inspire young readers across the country while expanding the availability of accessible formats of the club’s recommended reads, online and print elements, and its most popular activities and resources.
Due to the redevelopment of the building leased by CNIB at 1525 Yonge Street, the CNIB GTA Community Hub will permanently close on July 1, 2026. While the CNIB GTA Community Hub may be closing, we want to reassure our community that CNIB programs and services will continue without interruption. Beginning June 1, all local in-person programming will be offered at alternative locations in the GTA, including at CNIB’s national office at 1929 Bayview Ave., as well as local community spaces like libraries and community centres and through the CNIB Mobile Hub.
The Census of Population is taking place in May 2026 and will continue over the summer months. Data from the census are essential for all levels of governments, as well as businesses, community groups and organizations. Completing the census is a legal requirement for all residents of Canada. All residents of Canada are required to complete the census questionnaire, according to the Statistics Act.
