CNIB Manitoba launches Know Your Rights!

Main Content

In 2019, CNIB launched its first Know Your Rights project in Ontario. The pilot's goal was to present legal information in a way that speaks directly to the needs of people with sight loss.

Last year, we received funding from The Manitoba Law Foundation to launch the project in Manitoba.

As part of the Know Your Rights – Manitoba project, we held focus groups across the province, where participants with sight loss shared their experiences with discrimination. Through this research, we identified key issues of concern in the areas of education; employment; housing; healthcare; transportation; built environment, the COVID-19 pandemic, and government and consumer services.

From there, we developed nine legal information handbooks that cover these key areas with an overview of important legal rights and links to helpful legal services and community supports. The handbooks are available in Word and PDF formats.

We invite you to explore our website, browse the handbooks, and familiarize yourself with your legal rights!

Know Your Rights – Manitoba was made possible by The Manitoba Law Foundation, who graciously funded the project.  CNIB is incredibly grateful to the Community Legal Education Association (CLEA) for its dedication to the project and provision of legal research.
