New Digital ID card for CNIB Guide Dog Handlers

Main Content

CNIB Guide Dogs now provides CNIB guide dog handlers with an internationally recognized digital identification (ID) card.

A smartphone screen displays the new ADI-IGDF digital ID.

Developed jointly by Assistance Dogs International (ADI) and the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), the digital ID verifies that a guide dog or assistance dog has been trained by an accredited organization, helping to reduce access refusals and improve guide dog and assistance dog recognition worldwide.

The ADI-IGDF digital ID card is free to use and securely stored on a smartphone in the ID123 Digital Card app. It displays your photo, contact information, and your guide dog’s accredited training organization, CNIB Guide Dogs. The card includes built‑in security features such as screenshot prevention, animated card displays, and encrypted data storage to help protect your personal information.

More details about how to receive your digital ID card, and how to download the app will be shared directly with CNIB guide dog handlers.

If your dog was trained by an ADI or IGDF accredited organization other than CNIB Guide Dogs, you may also be eligible to receive the digital ID card. Please contact your accredited organization directly for more information on how to enrol.

While CNIB Guide Dogs encourages its guide dog handlers to adopt the digital ID card to support broader recognition, participation is entirely voluntary.

If you have questions about the digital ID card or how it works, CNIB Guide Dogs staff are here to help. Email us at guidedogs@cnib.ca or call 613-451-1509.
