Text
The below information is represented in tactile illustration, relief sculpture and text on a horizontal sheet of 18 by 24 inch Masonite board that is painted the same yellow used in CNIB branding.
The title Literacy is centered at the top of the panel in two and a half inch high lettering in DK Plakkaat. DK Plakkaat is a bold and simple letterform that looks as if it was drawn freehand with a thick brush.
Directly on top of the lettering is the title in braille using clear translucent dots. Beneath the title lettering to the left of the board are the words “Braille Creative Writing Contest- 35-60 students participate” written in a child’s hand. Beneath the lettering are a collection of braille dots in clay representing unknown text. Below the braille dots is a braille book sculpted in relief using clay and painted black. Each side of the book represents a six-dot braille cell. To the right of the book sculpture are the words “NEW! Young Braille Writer’s Retreat.”
Directly below the braille book sculpture are a grouping of braille dots being read by the silhouette of a hand. These also are in clay painted black.
On the far right of the board is a child’s drawing of a brailler. The drawing is painted with thick strokes of black paint and the lines are raised with the use of 3-D puff paint.
To the bottom left of the brailler illustration are the words “International collaboration on braille art project with UK VICTA”.
