The Voice for Independence program is designed to support children and adults who are blind or have low vision, aged 40 years and younger, in building confidence and independence through accessible voice technology. The program aims to increase independence, digital literacy, and community connection among children and adults with sight loss through accessible voice technology training. Each participant receives their own device at no cost, along with structured training and ongoing support.

The program will teach participants how to:

  • Make hands-free calls and set reminders
  • Access audiobooks through CELA
  • Stay informed with news, weather, and daily updates
  • Use smart home features
  • Create personalized voice commands for accessibility

Participants will receive:

  • A free Amazon Alexa device
  • Free hands-on training
  • Practical guidance and support to confidently use accessible voice technology at home
  • Temporary financial support may be offered to help with participation

This program focuses on inviting eligible children and adults in the Sudbury area to explore participation. Contacts are asked to respond indicating whether they are interested or not interested to assist with tracking and follow-up management.

The program begins July 11 at CNIB Sudbury (1545 Regent St Suite 104).  Respond indicating interest in participation. To register, please complete the CNIB Auto Registration Form.
