CNIB Nova Scotia will be hosting our second annual mini-conference. Join us on Thursday, May 14 at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 31) in Dartmouth for these four back-to-back sessions under this year’s theme, Above & Beyond!

Session 1, 1:30 p.m. Beyond Barriers: Navigating Health Care & Services

Join Marisa Hersey-Misner as she shares practical strategies for accessing healthcare and community supports with confidence. Drawing on lived experience and professional insight, she offers tools to help people with sight loss navigate complex systems, advocate for their needs, and feel more empowered.

Session 2, 2:30 p.m. Beyond Sight: Exploring the Cosmos Through a Different Lens.

Born legally blind, Tim Doucette experiences the world differently—finding clarity under dark, star-filled skies. Founder of Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan, Nova Scotia, he shares his journey with sight loss, his passion for astronomy, and how a different perspective led to extraordinary opportunities.

Session 3, 3:30 p.m.  Beyond the Spotlight: From Sight Loss to Storytelling

Join Jennie Bovard as she shares her journey with sight loss and the story behind Pretty Blind, her hit television show on AMI. Through humour and honesty, Jennie explores identity, advocacy, and how storytelling can challenge perceptions and create meaningful change.

Session 4, 4:30 p.m. Beyond the Game: Leadership, Vision, and Breaking New Ground

Join Nick Gentleman as he shares his journey as a legally blind athlete, sports professional, and leader. From national-level Goalball to athlete representation, Nick offers an inspiring perspective on resilience, ambition, and achieving success through determination.

You are welcome to attend all sessions and stay for the afternoon or come for just one! Following these sessions, we will have social and networking time followed by the CNIB Annual Community Celebration starting at 6 p.m.

Registration required by May 8. To register, please contact Jeff DeViller, Executive Director, CNIB Maritmes at jeff.deviller@cnib.ca or call 902-456-5982.

The conference is taking place at the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 31) in Dartmouth. The space is accessible and volunteers will be out front to greet you and provide sighted assistance!
