Zhicheng Lin, 21, is in his third year at McMaster University, where he is pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree with a specialization in finance. He’s fast-tracking courses and preparing for a future MBA, as well as the Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

Zhicheng, a young Asian man wearing a navy suit with a white dress shirt, stands in-front of a white background. Zhicheng is smiling and the photograph resembles a professional headshot.

"I have spent much of my life pushing back against barriers in a world not built with people like me in mind. My goal isn’t just to succeed, it’s to tear down these barriers for others, too,” said Zhicheng.

A CNIB scholarship recipient, Zhicheng shared that the funding he received “made me feel seen and supported and encouraged me to strive even harder.” The scholarship also helped ease some of the financial pressures of post-secondary education, allowing him to invest in accessible technology and other learning tools.

This summer, Zhicheng will join KPMG’s Corporate Finance team as an intern, a position he secured through CNIB’s employment pathway partnership with KPMG.

Back on campus, Zhicheng volunteers with Maccess, McMaster’s peer support network for disabled students. In this role, he supports students who are navigating accessibility and mental health barriers. He also serves as a volunteer and training coordinator.

"I am determined to make sure no student with a disability feels invisible. My lived experience fuels my leadership, said Zhicheng.

Please join us in celebrating Zhicheng’s achievements and the powerful example he sets for future generations of students who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision.

Congratulations, Zhicheng. Your future is bright, and we are honoured to be part of your journey!
