Voices for Action: New CNIB National Advocacy Committees

By: Rosalyn Commisso

CNIB is launching two national initiatives to strengthen advocacy for people who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision, and we invite you to get involved.

1. National Parent Advisory Committee

As part of CNIB's "Our Kids Will Thrive" strategic commitment to ensure children and families have the tools, resources and support they need to excel in and out of the classroom, we're forming a National Parent Advisory Committee and are inviting parents to join us as committee members.

The committee will help shape initiatives relating to early eye exams and access to appropriate supports in schools. The committee will build resources, plan events, and raise their voices to ensure that no child is left behind.

We’re actively seeking parents in the following provinces to join the committee:

  • British Columbia
  • Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba
  • New Brunswick
  • Prince Edward Island

To apply, contact Keya Osborne, Director of Disability Justice at keya.osborne@cnib.ca. Please include your name, location, and contact information.

2. CNIB Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) Network

If you currently serve on an accessibility advisory committee in your community, CNIB's new Accessibility Advisory Committee Network will connect you with advocates across the country who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision who also sit on these committees.

Through quarterly virtual meetings starting November 25, participants will connect with fellow advocates, strengthen their skills through peer-to-peer learning, and share practical tools and best practices to advance accessibility in their regions.

To join, complete the CNIB Auto Registration Form or contact Rosalyn Commisso, Lead, Regulatory Affairs at rosalyn.commisso@cnib.ca.

Together, these two committees will elevate parent leadership, connect accessibility champions, and build a coordinated national voice to advance rights, remove barriers, and promote inclusion across Canada. Apply or register today to help shape the future of accessibility.
