Recharge at CNIB Lake Joe’s New Adult Wellness Retreat

In today's fast-paced world, taking time to focus on personal well-being can feel like a luxury. Between work, family responsibilities, appointments, caregiving, and everyday stress, many adults struggle to find opportunities to pause, reflect, and recharge.

This September, CNIB Lake Joe is introducing a new Adult Wellness Retreat designed to help participants do just that.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Muskoka's natural beauty, this three-day immersive retreat invites adults with sight loss to step away from their daily routines and focus on their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

"As we continue to expand opportunities for people who are blind or have low vision, we're looking beyond recreation to support the whole person," says Eugene Chong, Director, National CNIB Camps. The Adult Wellness Retreat reflects our commitment to creating experiences that foster resilience, connection, and well-being in an accessible and welcoming environment."

Throughout the retreat, participants will explore a variety of wellness practices including mindfulness, creative expression, physical activity, self-care, and personal reflection. Guided workshops, experiential learning opportunities, and nature-based activities will encourage guests to discover what wellness means to them while building confidence and resilience.

"Wellness is deeply personal, and there's no single path that works for everyone," says Eugene. "This retreat gives participants the freedom to explore different approaches, from movement and mindfulness to creativity and meaningful conversation, and discover what they can incorporate into their own lives."

Guests will have opportunities to engage in group discussions, participate in hands-on activities, connect with peers who share similar lived experiences, and enjoy dedicated time for individual reflection. By the end of the retreat, each participant will leave with a personalized wellness plan and practical tools they can apply in their everyday lives.

Originally developed with young adults in mind, the program has been expanded to welcome adults of all ages who are interested in investing in their well-being and personal growth.

"CNIB Lake Joe has always been a place where people discover new possibilities," adds Eugene. "Whether someone leaves with new friendships, greater confidence, or practical strategies to support their well-being, we hope this retreat becomes the beginning of positive, lasting change."
