Launched in 2025, CNIB’s Legal Referral Service helps people who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision access justice by connecting them with community legal services and related organizations. The service also provides information and support in accessible formats, helping people identify the support they may need, connect with appropriate services, and take informed steps toward addressing their legal issues.
In April 2026, with generous funding from the New Brunswick Law Foundation and the Law Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, the Legal Referral Service expanded its in-person outreach across Atlantic Canada. Through the CNIB Mobile Hub and other community events, staff visited communities across New Brunswick and Newfoundland, raising awareness of the service and providing guidance and referrals to participants.
More than 110 participants, volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders joined us at stops in Moncton, Saint John, Miramichi, Fredericton, Stephenville, Corner Brook, Grand Falls-Windsor, Clarenville, Gander, Carbonear, and St. John’s. These visits gave participants an opportunity to speak directly with Legal Referral Service staff and learn about legal and other community services and supports available to them.
