CNIB Come to Work helps people with vision loss find fulfilling, accomplished careers

Main Content

It’s not uncommon for vision loss to occur as we age, but for some, its onset can be sudden and unexpected.

That was the experience for one woman from Victoria, Madison Sutcliffe, who suddenly lost about 90% of her vision during pregnancy. Looking for support and community, she reached out to CNIB and joined the Come to Work program.

“That was the moment a seed was planted,” she said. “I could imagine a new career path. It gave me hope, confidence, and ultimately led me to the amazing job I have today.”

Today, Madison works as the engagement manager at the Downtown Victoria Business Association (BIA). Her story is a powerful reminder of what happens when connection turns into opportunity, and a celebration of the Come to Work team, whose work continues to change lives across the country. Every day, they are helping job seekers who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision build meaningful careers, while partnering with employers who are ready to discover Canada’s full talent potential.

“I have an amazing family. I have an amazing job. And that version of me, in those first few weeks or months after I was diagnosed, truly would not believe it."

Come to Work is CNIB’s flagship employment program, a critical part of how we’re breaking down barriers and eliminating stigmas in the workplace for Canadians who are blind or have low vision, while linking them with employers. The program has connected thousands of job seekers, who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision with employers, looking to discover Canada’s full potential.
