About CNIB’s Police Training Video

Guide dogs belong everywhere. It’s the law. Under Ontario’s Blind Persons’ Rights Act, it’s an offence to deny guide dog handlers access to accommodations, services and facilities that are normally available to the public.

With generous funding from The Law Foundation of Ontario, and in collaboration with the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, Toronto Police Service, Halton Regional Police Service and York Regional Police, CNIB has created a training video to educate police, guide dog handlers and the general public about:

  • Ontario’s Blind Persons’ Rights Act;
  • The steps that police can take to educate service providers and enforce the Blind Persons’ Rights Act; and
  • The lived experiences of guide dog handlers and the impact of access denials on their dignity, self-worth and emotional wellbeing.
