CNIB sends its deepest thanks to the RBC Foundation for their leadership contribution to support Come to Work programs for young people with sight loss.
It's all part of RBC Future Launch, a commitment made by RBC to help Canadian youth prepare for the jobs of tomorrow – including investing $500 million in programs and organizations that empower youth to achieve their future careers.
With the RBC Foundation's generous donation, 125 youth impacted by blindness will learn valuable pre-employment and employment skills through counselling, workshops, bootcamps, power sessions, speaker series, a job seekers club, and virtual networking opportunities. The program will temporarily take the form of a virtual format in response to the current health crisis, moving towards a blended (virtual and in-person) format when it's safe to do so.
Our Come to Work program partners with Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada to ensure job seekers who are blind or partially sighted have pre-employment skills, including orientation and mobility (e.g., how to travel independently to and from work), independent living (e.g., how to dress for success) and technology training (e.g., how to use screen readers, VoiceOver, smartphone apps, etc.). This allows participants to build not only professional skills, but practical skills that will help them excel in the workplace – and in their daily lives.
