With Apple and Android devices accessible to people with sight loss, developers have released new apps designed to assist in many aspects of life. These range from light detection and magnification, to reading printed material using the phone’s camera.

The best resources for accessible apps are AppleVis for Apple devices and Inclusive Android for Android devices.

We have highlighted a few apps below, but there are many others available.

BlindSquare: BlindSquare is pioneering accessible navigation both indoors and outdoors. Travel with confidence knowing where you are and where you're going.

Aira: Using augmented reality, Aira connects people who are blind or partially sighted with a trained professional agent dedicated to further enhancing your everyday experience. It’s hands-free assistance after the touch of a button.

Seeing AI: Seeing AI is a free app that narrates the world around you, designed for the blindness community. This ongoing research project harnesses the power of AI to describe nearby people, text and objects.

Be My Eyes: Access visual assistance on demand, if you are blind or partially sighted.
