CNIB Access Labs: Championing Accessibility Solutions for a More Inclusive Canada

Contenu principal

(Toronto, Ontario, December 13, 2023) – CNIB, a non-profit organization driven to change what it is to be blind today, is thrilled to announce the launch of CNIB Access Labs, formerly CNIB Frontier Accessibility. CNIB Access Labs is a groundbreaking accessibility consultancy dedicated to transforming digital experiences and built environments across Canada. With a strong focus on user-centric design and Lived Experience Accessibility Testing services, CNIB Access Labs aims to revolutionize accessibility practices and foster a society where no one is left behind.

Digital Accessibility is Key:

In the ever-evolving landscape of digital transformation, accessibility is not a mere necessity but a social imperative. It is the driving force behind inclusive customer experiences and serves as a smart business decision. Recent statistics released by the Government of Canada highlight the urgency, revealing that an estimated 22% of Canadians are living with a disability. Shockingly, many organizations are struggling to meet accessibility requirements, as noted by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Major retailers have been found lacking in accessible websites, with over 70% falling short in this regard. Even more concerning is the discovery that critical accessibility blockers exist on 97% of homepages. Recognizing this pressing need, CNIB Access Labs has emerged as a leader in bridging the accessibility gap. The organization offers comprehensive digital audits and lived user experience testing in the Built Environment, elevating both digital and physical experiences for individuals of all abilities.

Inclusive Physical Spaces:

Beyond the digital realm, CNIB Access Labs understands the significance of accessibility in the physical environment. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with sight loss, CNIB Access Labs provides expert guidance and consultation in co-creating accessible design features in conjunction with navigation and wayfinding solutions to ensure that buildings and public spaces are designed and constructed with accessibility in mind. By leveraging their lived experience expertise, CNIB Access Labs paves the way for a more inclusive built environment, making commercial spaces, retail experiences, travel, and social participation more accessible for Canadians with sight loss.

Streamlined Service Offerings and Unparalleled Expertise:

CNIB Access Labs differentiates itself through its streamlined service offerings, providing organizations with a diverse range of holistic accessibility consulting services. From Lived Experience Accessibility testing to the co-development of accessible digital products, customer journeys, and in-depth built environment assessments, CNIB Access Labs offers comprehensive solutions for organizations seeking to create inclusive journeys and experiences. The team at CNIB Access Labs comprises leading professionals in the field, committed to delivering the highest standard of accessibility expertise.

David Demers, Managing Director of CNIB Access Labs, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, stating, "At CNIB Access Labs, we firmly believe that accessibility should be at the heart of every organization's design and service delivery. We are proud to bring our industry-leading expertise to the forefront and collaborate with businesses and institutions across Canada to create inclusive environments that benefit all individuals."

As CNIB Access Labs launches, it aims to be a catalyst for change, driving social impact through the adoption of accessible practices across Canada.
