Advocating for safer, more accessible journeys

People with sight loss continue to loudly voice that transportation barriers are among the greatest they face, whether they live in rural or urban environments. The issue? Inaccessible transportation systems and built environment barriers that put the community of people with sight loss in dangerous and stressful situations when travelling.

CNIB is committed to removing barriers and creating safe, accessible door-to-door journeys for all. Through our advocacy work, we're targeting Canada’s decision-makers, political representatives, and transit leaders to remove barriers to travel and create safe, accessible transportation options. By learning about the issues and joining our advocacy campaigns, you can help make tangible change in your community.

Rural Transit Advocacy Toolkit

Transportation is more than getting from point A to point B, it’s how people get to work, school, access health care and other essential services, and stay connected to their community. Where transit is limited or non-existent, people are left isolated. Reliable transportation gives people autonomy and the freedom to fully participate in their communities and live the lives they choose. In 2025, CNIB Advocacy established a rural advisory committee with the goal of creating resources for people advocating for greater transit access in rural areas. This toolkit is a result of that work. The Rural Transit Advocacy Toolkit will provide you with information and strategies to help you advocate for rural transportation in your community.

"SnoWay" Snow Removal Campaign

For people who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision, navigating outdoor spaces can become difficult or impossible during the winter months due to environmental barriers caused by improper snow removal practices. While CNIB continues to advocate for municipalities to review their snow clearing policies and practices, including budgetary decisions, you can take action and help advocate by participating in our annual SnoWay campaign.
