Connecting the Dots is going virtual!

We're smashing barriers to participation with an interactive experience no matter where you are. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has provided the CNIB Foundation with a unique opportunity to pivot and rethink how we 'connect the dots' and 'open doors to opportunities' on a global scale. 

We're excited to announce that we've transformed our annual in-person conference to a worldwide digital event to bring you a more accessible and inclusive experience free of geographical barriers.

This year’s Connecting the Dots conference will not only be much larger because it’s a virtual event, but it will also provide attendees with more dynamic networking opportunities while fostering collaboration. By leveraging a digital platform, attendees will have an opportunity to connect more effectively and efficiently with people, near and far. Imagine being in a session and knowing who else is in attendance and having the ability to invite someone for a coffee chat afterwards. This isn’t always possible at in-person conferences when there are hundreds of people in the room. While we’re smashing geographic barriers, we’re also creating a more inclusive environment, where everyone can participate. At Connecting the Dots, you can be part of an innovative community and so much more!

About Connecting the Dots 

Explore new ideas and learn from industry leaders at Connecting the Dots!

Held annually, Connecting the Dots is Canada's largest educational and professional development experience focused on braille, technology and employment for people who are blind or partially sighted. This two-day conference will provide opportunities for attendees to: 

  • learn more about current trends and innovations in the sight loss community at thought-provoking workshops and informative panel discussions;
  • network with industry experts and connect with other like-minded professionals; 
  • experience the latest advancements in braille and assistive technologies;
  • meet a community of braille transcribers, technology experts, academics, and entrepreneurs from diverse organizations and institutions; 
  • and, gain practical experience from industry experts.

At Connecting the Dots, you’ll learn from the best!  The conference attracts an incredible lineup of keynote speakers, panellists, educators, and vendors who impart their knowledge, ideas, and research to ignite conversations and provide valuable insights on braille, technology and employment.  

  • Braille: Connect with braille transcribers, educators, independent living specialists, and braille producers to discuss and share all things braille! From UEB rule revisions and new techniques to software solutions - learn from leading experts in braille on an array of topics.
  • Technology: The latest technology at your fingertips! Explore new technologies, products, services, and customized technology solutions that are helping to build and transform the world of tomorrow. Meet with product vendors and learn more about pioneering gadgets, apps, and devices that can support and empower you. 
  • Employment: Whether you’re actively searching for employment or just staying attuned to the landscape, Connecting the Dots is a great resource to help build your professional profile, develop strategies for advocating, and connect with professionals and resources to support your career ambitions. 

As a presenter

Keynote speakers and presenters have access to captive audiences and receive ACVREP continuing education recredits. All sessions will be 50 minutes in length, including Q&A time. Presenters will be given free admission to the conference on the day of their presentation. Presenters wanting to attend the second day as well, a discount on the registration fee will be provided. If you’re interested in presenting a topic related to braille, technology or employment, please complete the "Call For Papers" application and submit it to ConnectingTheDots@cnib.caSubmission deadline extended to July 19, 2020!
