Everyone should have an equal opportunity to be healthy and active. To enhance CNIB’s Culture, Sport & Recreation program offerings, we’ve partnered with SPIRIT Club, an online health and fitness platform that provides adapted exercise and healthy lifestyle classes.
SPIRIT Club strives to foster a culture of support and encouragement for all members. Whether you’re experienced with exercise or a total beginner; comfortable in gyms or prefer to engage in fitness at home, SPIRIT Club is where you can successfully work toward your fitness goals.
What kind of programming does SPIRIT Club offer?
Registered SPIRIT Club members have access to a suite of accessible and scalable virtual exercises and healthy lifestyle classes, including fitness, Zumba, boxing, yoga, meditation, healthy cooking, etc. Classes are developed and taught by fitness trainers. Equipment is not required.
Members can participate in live or on-demand classes, giving everyone the flexibility to fit activities into their schedules. SPIRIT Club shares 12 new classes every week. Plus, it has a library of nearly 500 past classes available to its members.
SPIRIT Club classes are taught with multiple trainers on screen simultaneously, each leading a different modified form of the same exercise (standing, seated, and advanced). This ensures there is a trainer on screen teaching a version of the exercise that is appropriate for any member at all times. Along with physically demonstrating exercises, trainers also focus on increasing their verbal description for members who are blind or partially sighted. Members can also access closed captions.
CNIB has partnered with SPIRIT Club to pilot this innovative virtual platform all across Canada. To become a SPIRIT Club member, please complete our online registration form. Upon registering, you will receive your SPIRIT Club login information from CNIB. Your login information is for your use only, and it should not be shared.
As part of this new partnership, CNIB will continue to collaborate with SPIRIT Club to enhance the fitness experience for people with sight loss. We encourage you to share your feedback with us by emailing Ryan Van Praet, Program Lead, Partnerships Recreation and Sports at Ryan.VanPraet@cnib.ca.
