While the causes of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are currently unknown, there are certain factors, within your control and others not in your control, that can put you at greater risk for developing the disease.

While this section provides tips for reducing your risk, it’s important to know that even if you’re doing everything right you can still be at risk of developing AMD. But by following these tips you can help minimize your risk and increase your chances of early detection. If you already have AMD, learning more about the risk factors you can control can help slow the disease’s progression, as well as the progression of vision loss.
