FAQs

Do you have a question about volunteering with CNIB? Check here for quick answers to the things we are asked most often.
"I want to volunteer with CNIB. What do I do? What positions are available?"
To volunteer, call
1-800-563-2642 or contact
CNIB in your community. You will be asked for your name and mail or e-mail address, and then an information package will be sent to you outlining the positions available, next steps and the screening process.
"Where do volunteers work?"
Volunteers serve in their local communities doing many different things, supporting CNIB staff or serving on a board or committee. CNIB volunteers also assist in day-to-day fundraising campaigns and special events. Volunteers in Toronto, Winnipeg and Montreal often help out in the
CNIB Library, providing services in our recording studios, braille publishing department and reader services.
"Can I be an administrative volunteer on the weekends?"
No, all administrative work is done on-site during regular business hours.
"Is there a time commitment"
Yes, most positions require a minimum six-month commitment.
"Is a police check required?"
This depends on the position you are applying for. In general, any position that includes contact with clients and/or confidential CNIB information will require a police check.
"Do you have opportunities for high school students?"
Absolutely. Students can help with special events, fundraising and administrative work during school breaks. Please call
1-800-563-2642 or contact
CNIB in your community to discuss the volunteer opportunities in your area.
"Is there a minimum age for a volunteer?"
This depends on the position you are applying for. High school students (age 13 or older) can help with events and administrative work, for example, but you must be 18 or older to work directly with clients.
"Do you accept college and/or university students for placements?"
Yes, most offices welcome college or university student volunteers. Please call
1-800-563-2642 or contact
CNIB in your community to discuss the volunteer opportunities in your area.
