Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Order of the Eastern Star

The Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Order of the Eastern Star, under the leadership of 2006-2007 Worthy Grand Matron Gail Cook and 2006-2007 Worthy Grand Patron Ron Boudreau, is helping bring the gift of literacy to people with vision loss across Canada. The club generously gave $35,000 to purchase an urgently needed high speed CD duplicator for the CNIB Library.

Three years ago the CNIB Library embarked on one the biggest technological shifts in its history by stopping the production of audiobooks and magazines on cassette tapes for the circulating collection. All newly produced audiobooks are now available exclusively in digital format - on DAISY CD and online at the CNIB Digital Library.

By funding the highly advanced robotic CD duplicator, the Grand Chapter of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, Order of the Eastern Star is putting tens of thousands of books into the hands of people with vision loss or other print disabilities. The duplicator is capable of producing as many as 5,000 CD copies a day of our audio books!

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Worldwide, there are approximately 1 million members under the General Grand Chapter.
