Partnership: Scotiabank Group

The Scotiabank CNIB Employment Readiness Program
Scotiabank Group has committed a generous $1.2 M over 10 years to the
Scotiabank CNIB Employment Readiness Program, beginning November 2006
and ending November 2015.
Access to gainful, satisfying employment remains a significant
challenge for people living with vision loss. According to a landmark
CNIB study - An Unequal Playing Field: Report on the Needs of People Who
are Blind or Visually Impaired - only 25 per cent of working-age adults
living with little or no sight are employed.
Scotiabank Group’s investment in the Scotiabank CNIB Employment
Readiness Program is helping us improve this unfortunate reality by
providing men and women across Canada who are living with vision loss
with a range of specialized services and programs – from daily living
and independent travel skills to career and employment counseling – to
facilitate entering, reentering or maintaining a valued position in the
workforce.
CNIB is extremely grateful for the latest gift and for its
longstanding partnership with Scotiabank Group, which, to date, has
given or pledged more than $2 M to our charitable organization. This
includes a leadership gift of $500,000 to digitize our library, a
$50,000 pledge to the Restoring the Spirit: the campaign for the CNIB
Lake Joseph Centre, as well as annual support of the CNIB SCORE Youth
Program to name just a few.
CNIB is confident that our most recent partnership with Scotiabank
Group will lead to improved career opportunities for participants with
vision loss in a variety of different fields.
