Frequently Asked Questions
Will anyone meet me at the airport or bus or train station when I arrive in Toronto?
Yes, a program staff member or volunteer will meet you when you arrive. It is very important to keep the program coordinator informed about all your travel arrangements, and of any delays or last-minute changes.
Where will I stay and what is the accommodation like?
The first part of the program will be spent at the Lake Joseph Centre, a CNIB camp/retreat in the Muskokas region of Ontario. The second part of the program will take place in Toronto. You will stay in a downtown residence-style accommodation. Participants will be assigned single or double rooms. Please note that we are unable to accept specific room requests.
What is expected of participants during the program?
Participants are expected to:
- Look after themselves, their room, and do their own laundry (orientation is provided).
- Respect rules and guidelines set out by program staff.
- You must be a team player and fulfill your duties to the best of your ability
- Learn routes and travel independently within the program locations and residences (orientation will be provided).
What about meals?
At Lake Joseph, you’ll be part of a camp-like setting. In Toronto, you will have opportunities to sample some of the city’s extensive restaurant cuisine. If eating in a restaurant, the program will cover these costs. Some meals will be informal and combined with a recreational or sports activity.
Who pays for this program experience?
CNIB’s generous donors, both corporate and individual, have made this program experience possible, and some have enabled selected participants to receive achievement awards at the end of the program. Our donors include The Gretzky Family, CNIB and Scotiabank.

Will there be an opportunity to continue to work on my new skills when I return home?
All SCORE participants will develop a personal plan to allow them to continue their interest in selected areas after the program ends. Program staff as well as regional representatives will help with this process.
Is there an opportunity to speak to a former SCORE participant before I send in my application?
Yes. Just send us the contact information where you can be reached and we’ll do our best to find someone who has already participated in SCORE and ask them to get in touch with you.
