About SCORE 4
SCORE
(Skills, Confidence and Opportunities, in Recreation and Education) program is a unique initiative for youth who are blind or partially sighted.
Hosted by CNIB, SCORE focuses on personal development, team building, leadership and career skills and civic responsibility.
The program is divided between the CNIB Lake Joseph Centre in Muskoka and the Greater Toronto area.
Twelve participants will be selected from across Canada.
Specialized CNIB staff direct each element of the program and provide orientation to the various program locations.
The Activities
For two weeks you will join other young people ready to have fun, engage in sports, visit restaurants and local attractions, and learn new skills.
Working in teams, you will take part in workshops, discussion groups and real community-based projects.
Program staff and guest speakers will provide you with new information and help you set goals to keep you going once you get home.
The benefits of SCORE 4
Working as part of a team, building on your strengths, actively practicing new skills, achieving goals with others.
Exploration of career options and learning through the experience of others in the workplace.
Participation in a community service project of your choice.
Preparation for post secondary studies through first hand experience of university living and being exposed to different programs and services post secondary institutions have to offer.
Costs and funding
There is no charge to attend SCORE. Transportation, accommodation, program expenses and meals are provided by generous donors. You should bring along enough spending money to cover incidentals, such as souvenirs and snacks. You should also bring a long distance calling card as CNIB is not able to cover the cost of long distance phone calls.
