Accessing CNIB DAISY Books or Magazines

1. Contact a CNIB Library Reader Advisor by phone, fax, mail (all formats welcome), or email.

You can request that DAISY books be sent to you on a regular schedule, or you can choose specific titles from the collection (or both). You can also subscribe to DAISY magazines.

2. Search The CNIB Digital Library.

If you have access to a computer and the Internet, you (or someone on your behalf) can search for DAISY books using the CNIB Digital Library. You can see if specific books you would like to read are in the collection, or browse DAISY books by subject or author. If you are registered for the Digital Library, you can even place holds online. See the How to search for DAISY books in The CNIB Digital Library section below for more details.

3. Visit a CNIB Library Partners Program library

Many public libraries across Canada partner with the CNIB or purchase DAISY books from CNIB so that they can offer CNIB Library materials, including DAISY books, to their patrons. If you reside near a VCPP library, that library can order DAISY books and magazines on your behalf. Some of these libraries even have DAISY players available for patrons to use.

To find out if your local public library is a member of the CNIB Library Partners program, contact Reader Services or check out the list of CNIB Library Partners Program libraries.

How to search for DAISY books in the CNIB Digital Library

CNIB Library clients can search the CNIB Digital Library easily and independently. It is also possible for someone else (for example, a teacher, parent, or child of a CNIB client) to search the Digital Library on that client's behalf.

Go to www.cnib.ca/library (or www.inca.ca/bibliotheque if you would like to search in French).
Choose The CNIB Digital Library.
On the login page, choose the 'search the Library as a Guest' option. Or, if you are a CNIB Library client and are registered to use The CNIB Digital Library (or Children's Discovery Portal), just log in.
Once inside the Digital Library, choose Advanced Search.
Select 'French (or English) DAISY Audio Book on CD' under Formats, and then enter your search terms in the 'search Criteria? box. You can search by author, title, subject, and more.
Select Submit. You will see a list of DAISY books that match your criteria.

Once you know which DAISY books you would like, contact Reader Services to order. If possible, please indicate the book number (listed in each book record in the Digital Library) when placing your order.

Any CNIB Library client who is registered for the CNIB Digital Library can order a DAISY book right online. To register for the Digital Library, contact Reader Services.
