Advocacy: The Right to Read!

La Bibliothèque en français

Less than 5% of all books and information published in Canada ever make it into an alternative format (such as braille or audio) that someone who is living with vision loss, or otherwise unable to read print due to a disability can read.

Canada is the only G8 nation that does not provide sustained funding or legislate support for a national library service for its print-disabled citizens.

In this section, you will find various advocacy tools for addressing this issue and promoting equitable access to information and library services in your community.

About the CNIB Library's Advocacy Program
In the summer of 1995, the CNIB Library Board initiated a program to explore prevailing barriers to information and access and promote awareness of the needs of blind and print disabled persons among other libraries and information providers across Canada.
