Description:

People of any age who are living with vision loss face unique challenges and often require particular adaptations to realize their full potential. The aim of this project was to create a comprehensive and useful profile of people living with vision loss in Canada.
The overall goal of the project was to inform public policy by the creation and dissemination of a report that addressed the following:
  1. The background of vision loss as a disability in Canada and the environmental challenges faced by a person with vision loss.
  2. A profile of people with vision loss. Several factors were considered including socio-demographics, income and labour force characteristics and impairment.
  3. How barriers in the realm of everyday life, as related to socio-demographics, income and labour force characteristics and impairment, affect those who are living with vision loss.
  4. The requirements and unmet needs for aids, devices and supports for daily living for those with vision loss.
