CNIB Baker New Researcher Fund
Overview:
The CNIB Baker New Researcher Fund provides one-year grants to encourage new investigations that may lead to the prevention of vision loss. It is intended to benefit new investigators (within 5 years after an academic faculty appointment) by giving them experience and results which can assist them in further grant applications and pilot investigations.
A new investigator is someone who is affiliated with a research facility through an academic posting and who has been in the field for less than five years.
Amount of Award:
Grants are for one year, in amounts up to $35,000 (CAD). Projects should be completed within 12 months. Funds that are unused after 24 months of the start up of the grant must be returned unless a special request for continuance is approved.
Equipment costs will not generally be covered, but in certain circumstances equipment may be funded on the basis of matching funds from the host facility. Travel and publication costs should not exceed $2,000.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be residents of Canada and research must be conducted primarily in Canada.
Deadlines:
The application must be submitted online no later than January 15 of each year, with grant decisions made by April 1. Applications must be focused and no longer than 10 pages in total.
Reporting:
The investigator will provide CNIB with a progress report six months following the start up of the grant. A second report including a copy of relevant findings of the research is required at the end of the research and prior to releasing the final quarterly payment.
All publications and presentations of this research must acknowledge the support of the CNIB Baker New Researcher Fund.
