White Cane Week

In celebration of White Cane Week, CNIB-Quebec will offer a series of free workshops from February 7-11, 2011.

From meditation to voice-activated GPS, our workshops will cover many themes meant to help enhance the independence of people who are blind or partially sighted.

These workshops will take place at CNIB’s Montreal office, located at 3044, Delisle Street, next to the Lionel-Groulx Metro Station.

Kapten Plus GPS

Kapten Plus is part of the new generation of voice-controlled Global Positioning System (GPS) designed for visually impaired and blind people, with features that everyone is bound to enjoy, from pedestrians to cyclists and motorists. Designed by Kapsys, the Kapten Plus uses the latest map data to provide in real time a voice description of your surroundings.

Nadine Capiaux of Infopratique will introduce this unique GPS, fully controlled by voice, with FM radio, voice recording, and MP3 playing capabilities.

E-T Project: Touching Space

Claude Champoux, will offer a unique introduction to science and astronomy
using animations and learning tools adapted to people living with vision loss.

The award-winning speaker, who graduated with of a master’s degree in museology science, will share his knowledge of our universe and solar system while guiding us through further exploration and discovery on our own.

Introduction to Meditation

It is with great privilege that CNIB will welcome Buddhist Nun Gen Kelsang Chögyan for an introduction to meditation and some words of wisdom on how to cope with ever-changing life circumstances.

With enthusiasm and simplicity, Gen Kelsang Chögyan will share Buddha’s profound teaching of in a practical manner, in tune to the modern and sometime stressful world we live in. Gen Kelsang Chögyan is the resident teacher at the Montreal Kadampa Meditation Centre.

With its integrated camera and monitor, it magnifies images to help you clearly see everything, from blackboard to books, or for personal tasks such as applying make-up and styling hair.

Humanware is a world leader in development and marketing of intelligent solutions aimed at enhancing active and independent participation in society for people with visual disabilities.
