Rehabilitation Services:

CNIB rehabilitation services are designed to provide an individual with a personalized program for success, making it possible for people living with vision loss to continue to work, play, and enjoy the things that matter most. These services include:
  • Registration and Referral assists in identifying individual needs and goals, and introduces the individual to the appropriate CNIB services and programs to meet those needs. Referrals to other resources may be made.
  • Low Vision Services include a functional assessment of visual abilities, information and training in the use of low vision devices, education, and instruction on how to maximize residual vision.
  • Independent Living Skills teaches skills for daily living with an emphasis on maintaining independence, through self-care and communication skills (i.e. computer training and braille).
  • Orientation and Mobility instruction for independence of movement and safe traveling in indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Early Intervention Program provides a comprehensive program of direct services, information resources, parent/peer support and advocacy training for children with vision loss, from birth to school age and their families.
  • Deafblind Services provides access to information for people who are deafblind through case management, counselling, referral, literacy programs, intervention services, and assistive technology.
  • Intensive Rehabilitation Training Centre (IRTC) is a 12 week intensive day program geared towards people with vision loss who are highly motivated and emotionally ready to develop independence. The program is tailored to individual needs and goals while emphasizing the importance of social development through group work and peer support.
