LDG.jpgHow long have you been a client of Deafblind Services?
"Almost 5 years."
How has being Deafblind impacted your life?

"I grew up with vision loss and I am deaf too. My vision got worse as I got older but it really impacted me when I had to stop driving. I was driving for 33 years and now need to rely on other people to drive me places when the bus and train can’t."

How has intervention impacted your life?

"They [intervenors] are awesome and I am able to communicate with them. They take me out where I need to go – e.g. food shopping and appointments. Without intervention I could be very bored. I love having a deaf Intervenor as they understand my culture and my language."

What would you like to tell other people about Deafblindness or intervention?

"It is worth having an intervenor to be our eyes and ears. I really appreciate them so much."

Why is deafblind awareness important to you?

"They [people] need to know that we need time and patience and that without intervenors we would not be able to do the things we need to do (banking, appointments, shopping etc.)."
