 2012 Outdoor Classic.jpg

The American Hockey League’s (AHL) Outdoor Classic is being billed as a 13 day celebration that will conclude in an alumni/celebrity game on Friday, January 20, 2012 followed by a regular season matchup between the Toronto Marlies and Hamilton Bulldogs on Saturday, January 21, 2012.

The celebration will provide your players with a chance to participate in what promises to be one of the most exciting events ever held in Hamilton as CNIB hosts our Fourth Annual Skate with the Bulldogs as part of the festivities.

This event is one of the Hamilton Bulldogs Foundation’s biggest fundraisers with proceeds going to support:
  • Hamilton Minor Hockey Council programs including player development, association support, equipment and financial assistance for those who require support to play the game.
  • CNIB to continue providing community based-support, knowledge and a national voice to ensure Canadians who are blind or partially sighted have the confidence, skills and opportunities to fully participate in life.

The Steeltown Showdown will be the first ever outdoor AHL game in Canada, and the first outdoor regular season pro hockey game east of Alberta. Organizers are expecting more than 22,000 fans (which would set the AHL record for an outdoor game) to fill the football stadium that is usually home to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Additionally, the main game will be shown on Rogers Sportsnet across Canada with a possibility of airing in the United States and Europe.

In order to make the event accessible and affordable, we have introduced graduated pledge levels beginning at $75 (3rd Star), $100 (2nd Star) and $150 and above (1st Star MVP). As a result, your players will receive:

    • A ticket to the Bulldogs vs Marlies outdoor game at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2012; and the alumni/celebrity game featuring former Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens on Friday, January 20, 2012, as well as a concert featuring a musical act yet to be announced.
    •
    •  A Skate with the Bulldogs tuque ($75 Pledge Level), a commemorative t-shirt ($100), or jersey ($150 and above).

    • An ice skating and autograph session with the Bulldogs at the conclusion of the main game on Saturday afternoon.
    • Refreshments and entertainment.

Fantastic prizes will be awarded to the top individual and minor hockey team who succeed in raising the most funds. Prizes include receiving a full 'Bulldogs Team Experience':

    • A tour of Copps Coliseum
    • A chance to visit a Bulldogs practice
    • A personal one hour practice session on the Bulldogs’ ice
    • A team pizza party
