Next Steps

So, you’re interested in taking the next steps to becoming a CNIB volunteer. Congratulations! CNIB is happy to have you and you are one step closer to helping someone living with vision loss. The following steps will enter you into CNIB’s volunteer system and prepare you for your volunteer role.

Step #1: Qualify

Make sure you meet our requirements.

Step #2: Discover Your Interest

Identify the opportunities that interest you. If you would like to see a complete position description for a CNIB volunteer opportunity, you can request one by contacting your local Volunteer Coordinator.

Step #3: Apply

Request an application by emailing Return it by email, fax, or dropping it off at the nearest CNIB office to you!

Step #4: Screening

You will be contacted by phone or email within two business days of your application. During this conversation a CNIB staff person will inquire about your specific volunteer interests, answer any of your questions, and provide you with additional information.

Depending on the opportunity that interests you and this position’s availability, you may also be asked:

  • To schedule an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services
  • To attend an orientation session about CNIB and a training session about your specific role
  • To complete a Police Record Check and/or a Driver’s Abstract

Step #5: Assignment

Once you have met all of the requirements, you will be assigned a volunteer position. You will be able to accept this assignment or request a new one. At any point, you may request a new assignment. Not all volunteers who apply will be considered a good fit for CNIB.

Step #6: Volunteering

During your time at CNIB you will have regular opportunities to provide feedback. Volunteers are encouraged to grow within CNIB; there are opportunities for increased responsibility and opportunities for training and skill development.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering.

If you have any additional questions or would like to check the status of your volunteer application, please contact your local Volunteer Coordinator.
