Client Support

Imagine losing some or all of your vision. How would you tackle daily tasks? Having someone to provide sighted assistance can make all the difference! CNIB invites you to make a difference in the life of someone who is blind or partially sighted by offering them direct support.

Vision Mate (2 hours/weekly in all NS & PEI Communities):

Provide regular social interaction and companionship to people who are blind or partially sighted; help with everyday activities like reading mail, organizing, going for walks, and running errands

DAISY Book Club Leader (2 hours/weekly):

Organize and facilitate an audiobook club in your neighborhood

Community Volunteers

Outreach in the community is paramount to the success of CNIB. The more people who know about our free services, the more people that the CNIB can help! There are many opportunities for volunteers to help spread the word!

Ambassador (On-Call in all NS & PEI Communities):

Ambassador tell their story of living with vision loss at speaking engagements to community and business groups, professional organizations, seniors associations, and the media. Ambassadors must be comfortable with public speaking and must already have a relationship with CNIB, whether as a client, a family member or friend of a client, or a volunteer in a different role.

Eye Clinic Ambassador (3 hours/weekly at the QEII in Halifax):

Reach out to patients and their families at the Eye Care Centre in Halifax; introduce CNIB services, demonstrate popular products that make everyday living easier for people with vision loss, and provide information about CNIB programs.

Event Team Member/Fundraiser:

Provide assistance as needed prior to and during events, including holiday parties, lunches, teas, open houses, fundraisers, or any occasion to welcome clients to the CNIB Centre. We are also interested in hearing about your third-party fundraising ideas!

Community Engagement Volunteer:

Help where you can in your community; have BBQs to raise money or bring clients together for social events

Office Volunteers

CNIB is looking for professional volunteers with computer, communication, and various other skills to provide assistance to CNIB staff and clients at our Halifax office.

The CNIB Centre Support Program (3 hours/weekly in Halifax & Charlottetown):

Help out across every department including registration, fund development, volunteer coordination, counseling, and sales at the CNIB office in Halifax; select tasks from the CNIB “Assignment Board”

Low Vision Assistant (3 hours/weekly in Halifax):

Call clients to remind them about upcoming appointments; call clients after their appointments to find out how their new products are working for them and to offer advice on how to improve results.

Evaluation Caller (3 hours/weekly in Halifax & Charlottetown):

Survey clients who have recently received a CNIB service, which may include participation in the Adjustment to Vision Loss group, to gather their feedback and suggestions for improvement.
