Retinal Diseases

Main Content

What are retinal diseases?

Retinal diseases can affect any part of your retina, the layer of tissue in the back of your eye that senses light and sends images to your brain. They can affect your sight, with some causing blindness.

There are treatments available for some retinal diseases. Depending on your condition, treatment may be to stop or slow the disease and preserve, improve or restore your sight. If left untreated, some retinal diseases can cause severe vision loss or blindness.
