The CNIB Foundation, Canada's largest non-profit serving people who are blind or partially sighted, has signed an exciting new partnership agreement with HumanWare, makers of accessible technologies for people with sight loss.
Through this partnership, the CNIB Foundation and the people it serves will have access to the latest assistive technologies as soon as they become available, across all its enterprises including Shop CNIB, Frontier Accessibility, as well as its affiliate organization, Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada.
In addition to the latest technologies, HumanWare commits to offering a dramatically increased training and support program for all CNIB Foundation and Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada staff, via webinars, in-person visits, phone support and internal education courses. HumanWare will also be offering the CNIB Foundation an expanded distribution of new demonstration units so the people served by the non-profit can experience the products first-hand before making a selection. In addition, the CNIB Foundation will also benefit from significantly improved delivery times so clients can get their HumanWare products right when they need them.
This agreement applies to all CNIB Foundation locations across Canada. In fact, the CNIB Foundation will be the exclusive supplier of HumanWare products in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, with the opportunity to expand exclusivity to other regions in the future.
The CNIB Foundation and HumanWare have a long history of working together, with the Foundation offering HumanWare products to its community members, but never with a formal partnership agreement.
“We are proud to partner with HumanWare because our missions are so aligned – we both want to give people with sight loss the support they need to live life on their own terms," says John Rafferty, President of CNIB. "And with HumanWare's commitment to quality, innovation and support, they're a natural choice for us to partner with. They understand what Canadians who are blind or partially sighted need out of products and technologies."
For more than 30 years, HumanWare has been developing a range of highly intuitive and intelligent solutions that empower people who are blind or with low vision by giving them the independence to participate effectively within a sighted world. From advanced braille products and electronic magnifiers to digital talking book players and beyond, HumanWare’s products help people to live independently and compete effectively in today's world.
“We are pleased to build this new partnership with CNIB that will allow us to better serve the blind and visually impaired community. CNIB has a long history, an exceptional reputation and is best positioned to serve the needs of the Canadian population. CNIB and HumanWare are like-minded organizations and we are excited by CNIB’s commitment to meet evolving community needs and the introduction of CNIB SmartLife Centres.” Highlights Bruce Miles, President of HumanWare.
