Dr. Euclid Herie, Past President and CEO of CNIB awarded top international honours
CNIB wishes to congratulate Dr. Euclid Herie, past CNIB president and CEO, on his induction into the blindness hall of fame in October 2009. The hall of fame is hosted by the American Printing House for the Blind located in Louisville Kentucky. Dr. Euclid Herie is only the second Canadian to receive such honour - the other is Colonel Edwin A. Baker, the founder of CNIB.
Recently, Dr. Herie was also awarded the World Blind Union (WBU), Louis Braille medal in Coupvray France. This medal is WBU's most prestigious award and is only awarded once every four years. This year's award also marks the bi-centenary of Louis Braille, born 1809. The medal was presented to Dr. Herie on June 20, 2009.
Dr. Euclid Herie has served as an international officer of the WBU and as international president from 1996-2000, the only North American to serve in this role. He is an honorary life member of the WBU. Dr. Herie served as CNIB President and CEO from 1983-2001. Following his retirement from CNIB, he founded the World Braille Foundation.
