Former CNIB President Jim Sanders appointed to Chair of Accessibility Standards Advisory Council, Ontario
CNIB congratulates its former president Jim Sanders on his recent
appointment to Chair of the Accessibility Standards Advisory Council
(ASAC) of Ontario, announced by the Ministry of Social Services in early
February.
Jim retired from CNIB in March 2009 after more than 40 years of
outstanding service. Starting his professional relationship with the
organization in 1963 at just 15 years old, Jim held positions at every
level, from working in our retail store to his eventual appointment to
president and CEO in 2001.
Along the way, he was integral in shaping CNIB into a model for
vision health organizations around the world. It was under Jim’s
leadership that CNIB developed its digital library, which is the largest
producer of alternative format materials in Canada. He also led the
organization through a rejuvenation in the mid ‘00s that saw CNIB
embrace a new brand as well as a renewed focus on research.
Mandated under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act,
ASAC was established in 2005 to advise the Minister of Community and
Social Services on the progress of developing accessibility standards
for people with disabilities in Ontario.
CNIB is proud to see Jim Sanders continue making a difference for
people with vision loss and other disabilities in his new role with
ASAC.
